It now operates as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) on their network.

Public Mobile is owned by Telus but is operating "independently". It shares all the Telus towers and frequencies. Even phones locked to Telus, or Koodo, will work on PM.

Telus shares towers with Bell. Telus Mobility partners with Bell Mobility to operate three different kinds of nationwide networks in Canada. These networks include an HSPA+ network and an LTE network. So by default you will use telus but you may also use Bell depending on some factors.

Public mobile = Telus = Bell

Even if you are on Freedom in the majority of Canada you use Rogers. VideoTron, Sasktel, etc also has their own towers but like Freedom are only used in certain places. The rest of the time they rely on the big 3 "partner networks"

However if you are talking about the network sharing agreement it is not available to Public Mobile customers as you can see on the Public Mobile coverage maps. Public Mobile does not get to go on the "Extended" network which is the agreement with Rogers. This same goes with Chatr, Chatr customers use the Rogers network but are not covered by the "Extended" network which is their agreement with Bell/Telus. Since Bell and TELUS share the same network regardless, that's why Public Mobile gets coast-to-coast coverage. It's only that extended network coverage is not included. (Extended Coverage was only available to Postpaid Bellus Customers.)

For extended network coverage, you need to go on Rogers, Bell, Telus, Fido, Virgin or Koodo mobile. (Extended Coverage was only available to Postpaid Bellus Customers.)

When they said they offered no-frills service via Public Mobile, they literally meant it as Extended network coverage is considered extra since it costs more for the operator for you to go on "Extended" coverage zones..

@lil-twerp, they use Telus and Bell sites in most provinces. In Saskatchewan they use Sasktel sites. In Manitoba, they also use BellMTS and Rogers sites.

See here for more details:

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Discussions/Network-sharing-explained/m-p/129092

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Discussions/Network-sharing-explained/m-p/131599#M43191

Extended coverage means domestic roaming.

Let me know if you have any questions.
