Speeds on the service

Hi guys

I apologize if this topic has come up before. I have noticed in my short time with Public Mobile that the speed is really super good for what they advertise as 3G speed. I don't want to jinx it but I was getting over 100mbps. See the screenshot below. No wifi on and 100 percent running on Public Mobile.

Am I crazy or am I getting full on LTE speeds anyways?

I was in Burlington, Ontario the time of the speedtest.

I have noticed everything I do online is super fast as normal use over the last few days has been remarkable.

What do you think about this? What are your speeds like?

Your speed isn't limited for the first several days of service. So are you new PM user?

Yes I am new. That answered my question and also sort of disappointing to hear it is full speed for a while. I wonder what the deal is with that?

Do you find the 3G speed throttling still usable for the basic things?

Not at all. Once upon a time in a land far far away we used phone couplings to connect up to bulletin board services at a whopping .00024 mbps. The best the old modems could do back then was .0056 mbps. For plain old text and the old simple web pages this was, shall we say, fine.

I was in the Gaspésie (Very countryside!) and it was like 4mbps. Email, social media, maps, and even Steam (I got a free steam key from Reddit and redeemed it on spot lmao) works fine. Didn't try videos (I'd advise you against that).

I remember 3G speeds. At least it is still a LTE connection battery wise it shouldn't be as taxing. I'm sure I'll find out soon what it's like. For now .I'll enjoy the wind breeze.

If you don't have many gigs to use then don't. A speedtest eats data.

I don't know something changed on the Public Mobile end (never got a test above 130Mbps before (even on an LTE+ device), but I tried earlier today, and got a result of 311Mbps. 587MB later, I think I can say that I'm satisfied that Public Mobile is no longer doing anything that slows down our speeds comparted to Telus and Koodo (even though I know that things got better than the previous 60/70Mbps limit long ago). I have no idea why anyone would need this type of speed on a cell phone plan, and until the day that data plan alotments catch up, I think that the faster speeds can actually be a bad thing (we use up our data faster!).
