Temporary usage - for Skype conferencing

Further to my question regarding using as a hotspot.

I have 3 relatives visiting this summer - they all do teaching online - 3 hours a day - they are only staying for a week. They use Skype or some similar conferencing system.

Since they are all working on the same schedule, and I don't think my current internet would be fast enough for all three at the same time, I was wondering, could they each purchase a $50.00 plan to cover them for the time they need?

If you have internet with wifi from a service provider if so I think that should work

@sulynsiIf they each purchased a SIM card and 30 day plan they wouldn't have to renew it if they didn't want to.

@sulynsi they would probably have enough data within the 8GB, but I would think that the throttled 3Mbps up and down speeds of the "3G" speed data plans like the $50 plan would struggle to keep up with multi-participant video-conferencing. I'm not sure I'd suggest this.

Throttled up and down speeds? Do you mean PM changes their speeds throughout the day?

as to the conference, it's really only one on one - more like tutoring

I am not sure I would try it between 3 people you may find it to slow and the possibility of losing connection would be a definate possibility but thats just my opinion

@sulynsi A skype video conference consumes about 3.5 MB per minute so a 3 hour session will use roughly 630 MB. Do the math then decide

There is no throttle based on time-of-day. The $50 plan that you speak of is only advertised as including a speed of 3Mbps. That's where the bottleneck could be.

@sulynsiIf your relatives already have their own cell phones and data plans then there is no need for them to purchase $50 plan.. should be $60 (need Sim card) + tax. As long as all 3 of you are not trying to video conference at the same time off the same cell phone it should be okay.

They / you might want to consider Koodo's $50 plan instead .. since Koodo is taking $10 off for each month for a year (so $40/month) and has non throttled LTE. Not to mention you get way better support since that's the mid tier brand, let say it is "Premium Economy" of the Telus brands. People are disuading you to use Public Mobile because of the "up to 48 hours" wait for Moderators to respond, Koodo hopefully would be more responsive.

@sulynsi sorry for the confusion, I didn't word it well.

Any plan at Public Mobile that is described as having 3G data, means that Public Mobile has set an artificial limit (throttling) of up to 3Mbps (3 Megabits per second), per direction; so: 3Mbps download speed, as well as 3Mbps upload speed. I am guessing video and/or audio quality might suffer for the students/attendees.
