Is Internet sharing allowed - USB tethering + Mobile Hotspot ?

The major carriers have blocked that with SIM-Enabled feature limitations on prepaid plans.

Does PM allow that or is it disabled ?

Not sure if this is what you mean, but... I can enable Personal Hotspot on my iPhone and share my data. That works great.

Where did you hear this from? I don't know of any of the major carriers in Canada blocking this, prepaid or not. Either way, Pubilc Mobile fully allows tethering. It's not as if carriers are going to care if we use our data up faster. In the U.S., I do hear of some funny business that some of the carriers do when it comes to tethering, either by not allowing it, or disabling the feature in the phone's software.

Bought unlocked phone from Telus Prepaid.

Now the Internet sharing is nowhere to be found.

Contacted the manufacturer and they advised to contact Telus as carriers have the option to disable features built into OS.

Accordingly, contacted Telus and was told that Internet sharing is disabled on Prepaid and if I want it then I should move to postpaid.

Even though my device is still covered by telus until 2022, they just pushed all our conversations to:- just contact your new network provider. Every question I asked, the only reply I got was contact your new provider. I directly told the CSR its BS as it was strictly device related issue and not network.

Reason I asked this question is also because the CSR told me that since internet sharing is a SIM enabled feature my non-telus carrier might have disabled it. Telus is full of BS.

Telus prepaid phone are the exact same thing as the postpaid phone, just sold at different pricing structures. Sometimes, the prepaid version are in different packaging, while other times, they just put a sticker on the box that says prepaid and put a sim card inside. As for the hardware and software, there is no difference between the two.

So, yes a phone could have the Wi-Fi hotspot feature disabled, but it would be the same whether you bought the phone as prepaid or in conjunction with a postpaid plan. I highly doubt any curent model of phone sold by Telus has this feature disabled, and I strongly suspect that everything you were told by Telus were falsehoods.

@NuYearNuMobileIf you really really want to have tethering enabled.. the best way to go about is to find out which model of phone you have, and flash a stock OS on to it.. not the Telus one but the stock one from the factory without the Telus configuration / bloatware.

There are also 3rd party apps you can try.. an explanation can be found here.

However do note, rooting and flashing firmware that is not Telus' will definitely void your warranty.

Did you buy your phone recently, if it is still warrantied to 2022? Why not just return it?
