Walmart and sim cards

Everything I have found said that I can purchase SIM cards at Walmart (have even purchased at a Walmart about a year ago). On Saturday in Duncan bc I was told I can’t unless I activate. And on Sunday in Langford bc was also told can not just purchase a SIM card? Walmart Employee actually told me that they don’t and public mobile just hasn’t updated their info on the website to reflect this? I will try a a London drugs tomorrow, however would be good to know if Walmart is no longer selling just SIM cards or if they should be

I haven't heard that you HAD to activate, but perhaps it a store by store decision...

You get a sim at either London Drugs, The Mobile Shop, KMobile or WOW Mobile.

For some reason at Walmart they insist on activation as well as purchase.

If WM gives you free SIM card to activate at WM, then you save another $10. It does not matter at this point as there is no promo requirement to activate at home online.

Every retail location you are permitted to purchase the SIM. No exceptions. The Walmart kiosks are staffed by OSL, a third party retailer to handle the electronics department, and they make up their own rules, which conflict with what Public Mobile continues to offer.

All retail partners should sell a sim upon request, without the forced activation.

@popping, although I agree there is no promo at this time that requires self-activation, it shouldn't matter. A customer is allowed to purchase the sim to do their own activation.

I really just need a SIM card, the phone is activated but was lost so need a new sim for a new phone and new the number

@Rafmat If you lost your phone you should suspend your account by declaring your phone lost via selfserve. To report your phone stolen. Login to your selfserve account. Choose Plans and Add-ons tab. Choose the Lost/Stolen Phone tab. Choose Suspend Service tab. Purchase a new SIM login into selfserve again and then select the Change SIM Card option and add the new SIM card number to your account.. Declare you phone found. That way you keep the same number.

Public Mobile is a Self-Serve cellphone provider, meaning you shouldn't have to activate in store. I went to my local Walmart today and purchased a SIM without a problem and without having to activate in store.

I have buy one from Amazon, 10$, and you can activate it on PM web site once received. I find it easier to order from Amazon, and faster, plus I had to buy the phone anyway. Walmart ask me to activate it at store as well, so I end up ordering at Amazon.
