Urgent: Need to recieve SMS while abroad

Hello,

I'm currently abroad (Korea), and have an emergency which requires that I recieved an SMS code to my Canadian number.

Is there anyway for me to do this? At this point it doesn't matter how much it would cost. Thanks

@JP07 I don’t think you can get SMS aboard as it’s not international roaming. But you can try to put PM sim card in your phone to see it has any signal if it has you should receive a text message

I'm assuming your definition of emergency wouldn't allow you to ship the sim back to Canada for someone to get the code for you.

Your Public Mobile service isn't going to work there no matter how much you are willing to pay - sorry. To receive SMS, your only option would be to get a sim card and activate a cell service in Korea, but that isn't going to be a Canadian phone number. In short, what you are asking isn't possible unless you switch to another carrier.

In addition, SMS services have always been noctoriously unreliable compared to other communication methods. If this really is for emergency purpose, I would think twice about using SMS.

If you really don't care about cost/inconvenience, just have a friend buy and activate a new SIM in Canada, and report your existing SIM as lost. Have your friend receive the SMS and email the contents to you.

Your own SIM will obviously be deactivated and cannot be reactivated. You'll need to get the new SIM from your friend after you come back to Canada (or buy another SIM again).
