Android Messages for Web

One of my many gripes against texting is not having a web access via computer. Apps like skype and whatsapp have had a web capability for some time now. Finally, android messaging has gotten with the program and added web messaging capability. Those who don't use stock android messaging should consider switching just to have access to this function.

Why is this feature so hyped? Does everyone just sit in the office in front of their computer and at home starring at PC?

@will13am i'm assuming it doesn't use your texting alloation especially if you are on the limited texting plan. ~~but i am also assuming you would need to be on wifi or data for the messages to sync?~~ just saw the text on the site:

Messages for web connects to your phone to sync messages. To reduce data usage, connect your phone to Wi-Fi.

It's the first step for RCS which is intended to replace text messaging platform. It could spin into the android edition of iMessage hopefully. At this point, it's just a convenient way to type text on the computer keyboard. Google gets involved into so much stuff that gets abandoned along the way.

Prior to coming to Public Mobile, I couldn’t receive cellular signal for voice or sms in my apartment. I loved the feature on iOS and the then OSX, called continuity. It allowed me to leave my phone on the window sill, and send calls and text to my other devices.

A much needed feature when signal is spotty.

Yeah, I'm a Google fan, but I have Hangouts, Hangouts Dialer, Android Messages, Allo, and Duo on my phone right now. And I use them all. I don't use them all frequently, but I do have a use for each app. They need to get their act together in this regard.

@will13am looking forward to RCS too, but here's the thing: Andorid already has an edition of iMessage: it's called WhatsApp. Everyone should be using it instead of texting. And it's had web messaging for ages, plus--correct me if I'm wrong here--all the features of RCS except backward compatbility to texting. And it's cross-platform (*IF you can convince your iPhone friends to actually use it, but that's another story) while RCS appears unlikely to be adopted by Apple anytime soon.

So yes, I briefly played with web texting the other day when it launched, but I still prefer keeping those conversations (along with my WhatsApp and other messengers not work related) on my phone most of the time while working.
