Posted a couple weeks ago but received no response, apologies for repeating myself. My friends and I (all iPhone users) use sms for sending group texts. (Also send single texts) I’ve noticed it requires a data connection to receive or send group texts through sms. Is this data usage included as part of my unlimited text plan, or does it use my data? (Standard sms, I do not use iMessage) Thoughts? Thanks 🙏

MMS should not use data from your regular data. Picture message data settings are different.

To be sure you can test it out by monitoring if there is a data change after you send a MMS. For example you have consumed 1234MB before you send the MMS and it is still 1234MB after sending then no data has been used from your regular data.

Data consumption is shown in real time in account overview.

Hope it helps

@David01 group texting is delivered over MMS rather than SMS, which is why it requires your data connection to be active. As @Civic_E noted, the amount used does not get deducted from your monthy data amount in your plan (if any) or any data add-on(s) you may have purchased (if any).
