So I'm thinking of ordering a couple of cheap phones for my preteen children. Just basic communication, Talk and Text. I was wondering if these phone would work on this provider here in Moncton NB Canada.

3G WCDMA 850/900/1900 Mhz, 2G GSM 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz

Does anyone know without me having it with me to check IMei?

You can go to this page: https://willmyphonework.net/. provide the brand of the phone, its model. Then choose Canada for country, select carrier and you should be able to see if the phone will work.

The 3G WCDMA part should be fine. The 2G not.

Nope, Brand doesn't show up. These are like $50 phones from Newegg.ca. I'm very anti technology for my kids. My daughter doesn't need any other temptations because of her innocent attitude and outlook on life.

Hi . Telus/Public Mobile uses 850 and 1900 Mhz for the 3G network.

Those phones should work.

Using my phone brand and mmodel, and asking to check if it will work with Public Mobile, I got this info:

2 G Network: Carrier Network does not support 2G

3 G : 850MHz, 1900MHz

4G LTE Network: Band12-700MHz, Band17-700MHz, Band5-850MHz, Band4-AWS, Band2-1900MHz, Band7-2600MHz

My understanding is that the phone you're looking at works on the 3G 850MHz and 3G 1900 MHz bands, and these are the bands Public Mobile is using for 3G.

Your phone is sold online by Walmart (Jethro-SC318-3G-Unlocked-Senior-Kids-Cell-Phone) and Walmart also sells Public Mobile SIM cards. So, you could buy the phone online at Walmart, go to a store, buy a SIM card and have the Walmart salesperson take care of activating the phone. If you buy it from Newegg, you will be on your own.

One other possibility is to check first with the salesperson at Walmart if they have ever activate with succes your phone on Public Mobile and only then order the phone.

Official answer for bands says 3G 850/1900. According to Amazon description it should be compatible.

Not here to judge, but kids will get equally tempted if their friends use smartphones. It's better to teach responsible use of technology than just trying to put them out of sight.
