How do I setup data/APN on my Windows phone?

If you’re having trouble with data on your non-Public Mobile Windows smartphone, you may need to configure your network settings for Public Mobile. The steps below may not be exactly the same on your particular phone but they should help you to get going.

Step 1:
Windows 8 Step 1 Settings > cellular > Add or Edit internet APN

Step 2

You will need to input the following info:

APN: sp.mb.com
Username: Leave blank
Password: Leave blank
Proxy server (URL): Leave blank
Proxy port: Leave blank
IP Type: default,supl,mms

Tap on the Save icon

Step 3 (for picture and video messaging)

Settings > cellular > Add or Edit MMS APN

Step 4

You will need to input the following info:

APN: sp.mb.com
Username: Leave blank
Password: Leave blank
WAP gateway (URL): 74.49.0.18
WAP gateway port: 80
MMSC (URL): http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mb/mmsc
MMSC port: 80
Maximum MMS size: Leave blank
IP type: default,supl,mms

Tap on the Save icon

I have a question regarding IP type for windows phone. You have the following message "IP Type: default,supl,mms" when setting up a windows phone.

I have these options on my settings menu for IP: IPv4, IPv6 and IPv4v6. Can you tell me which one one to choose for PM?

@jazikids Either IPv4 or IPv4v6 should work fine for you. I've never received an IPv6 address on my smartphone, but I suppose it's possible that there are areas when Telus has transitioned their IP infrastructure to support IPv6.

Oh wow...

I guess I'm lucky that my lumia 640 "worked out of the box" with PM then.

I saved the info though if something does happen and lose the connection! Thanks!

Edit: could my phone using LTE be the reason it was "plug and play"? (vice 3/4G?)

@tharkhold The vast majority of devices don't need manual configuration in order to work with PM. What's being discussed in this thread is likely not the same device as yours.

It looks like Wondows 10 might do the settings automatically but in case not:

For Windows 10, "Cellular & SIM" can be found under "Network & wireless"

To add an Internet APN select "SIM settings"

MMS APN can be found on the same menu as Internet APN

WAP Gateway fields are labelled as proxy.

I actually just had to do a phone reset to fix a bug and Windows Mobile 10 automatically sets up the APNs when it sees that you have a Public Mobile SIM!!

Thank you whoever at Microsoft and/or PM that made that possible!
