From what I am reading $0 on 2 year contracts for the newest phones. A first for carriers to offer the phone $0 on the new releases of Apple products

Shaw is deploying additional 2500 MHz spectrum and refarming part of its AWS-1 spectrum to ensure older iPhone models work on its network.

@Wonder_why, you must be joking that what Freedom is offering has value. As an example, the iPhone X 64 gig is $0 up front with $$40 per month mortgage for 24 months ($960) on a monthly plan at $60 or greater. I know the $60 plan seems rather fully loaded. It must be recognized that this is on a tiny network that is far from maturity. Unless you need 10 gigs per month, would it not be better to be on say the 2016 fall promo and pay $40 per month, leaving $60 over 24 months ($1440) to buy the iPhone from the Apple store at a cost of $1319? I suppose it depends on whether the cost of money is greater than 4.5%.

Cancelling the service prior to completion of the 24 month term triggers a payback of the remaining tab balance which decreases by 1/24 of the tab each month. Since the outright price of the iPhone is the same as the price available at the Apple store, it makes no sense to try and game the system. Freedom has some pretty water tight terms that prevent such end runs.

You still have to pay a $50 tab per month for 24 months. That works out to be $1200. Plus you have to buy a $60 plus plan. Nothing is free in life. 😉

Many people don't analyze it that deeply. They see $0 iphone X and a reasonable monthly cost (compared to the big 3), and they jump on it.

Admitedly, I tried to do a rough estimate of the interest rate on this deal that many won't care about. To me, the good part of this deal is the interest rate which is actually not bad for a consumer loan on something that is depreciating like yogurt out in the hot sun. It is $100 a month cost to be a Freedom customer that is hard to fathom.

@will13amyeah, $100/month is tough to swallow for sure. But I hear about my friends and coworkers plans on the big 3 and some are close to and exceeding this amount... with less features. So for these people, paying about the same per month, getting more data and US calling, and getting a new iphone X to boot is about as good as it gets. Just don't tell them about the coverage issues...

I think many carry the iPhone around as a status symbol.
