I did a search and I see threads going back to 2015, people baffled that paypal is an option to get a sim-card but not make a payment for the service. Never is there anything resembling an 'official' response. Much theorizing, some of it well thought, some of it not. Denying one of the most consistently used payment services/methods on the planet is at it's core foolish and from a business growth perspective, ignorant. And it likely results in consistent loss of business and potential business.

If it takes this long for a whole industry to adapt to and adopt proper online payment you'll have no right to complain when everything is running over mesh networks and payments occur via blockchain-like architecture. I was eager to get on board with this and for a month I was. Then I find out how monumentally behind the times you (Public Mobile) are.

I'm also well aware of what the common excuses are. None of them are valid.

'it costs them money to support paypal' It costs no more or less than direct credit card support. fees are passed to the consumer not the business, otherwise no one would have jumped on board when Elon Musk started the company.

'There's extra overhead in supporting it' No there's not, Paypal handles the architecture and software engineering, In a majority of cases it allows most businesses to streamline their accounting allowing existing teams to get more done.

Let's be realistic. The only reason it's not supported is because of 'old guard' thinking' Suits don't fully understand it and insist on doing things the way they've 'always been' as the world changes around them. Then when everything crumbles they throw a tantrum and try to lobby for regression.

And now people will respond with how public mobile is great (and that's true, it's overall quite good) and suggest alternate methods; but that's the problem. no one should have to suggest anything.

The following payment methods should be supported;

Online Debit, Credit, Paypal, Bitcoin, Interac-Online (or similar)

And those methods would be current as of 1997. So 20 years behind the times. That's actually not bad for a Canadian service provider. (around 10+ years for bitcoin)

If you'v ever wondered why Canada is the last to get new technologies like google voice, amazon alexa, cortana, netflix, hulu, webflow, etc. This slow movement and stubborn thinking is why.

@Alpha17x, you have a point about the state of technological progress in this country. Sometimes it's like the third world here. That said, if you have been with this service for a bit of time, you will come to realize that these suggestions fall on deaf ears to the point where request was made to shut down the labs forum. This discussion will go nowhere.

It's the oligopoly to be blamed for lack of advancement. Big three want to maximize profits by giving little as possible while gouching as much as they can.

Public mobile is like a **bleep** child which telus wants to get rid of but can't. As mobilicity is for rogers.

While I too was a bit thrown off by the lack of Paypal support, the reality is that credit cards still remain the universal (and often primary) method of payment for online transactions. This is not unique to Public Mobile and is quite common with other brands. It's quite the oversimplification to suggest that it's "old guard" thinking without having an understanding how PM's financial systems are set up, how they integrate with the rest of the Telus family and whether they're in any position to implement such systems given that PM is basically a "budget" brand.

With your response that Canada is the last to get any new technologies, just look at the States just dragging their heels on chip-and-PIN credit card transactions when Canada (and the rest of the world) has had it for decades, and yet it's the same country that has Hulu and all the things you named. We also have a much smaller market than the States given that they have 9x the population we do.

The simcard system and the phone activation system are 2 seperate things. One is simply an online shop(sim card) the other is an integrated system that is shared between Telus brands. That is why koodo prepaid requires a different email address, and i think would require a large amount of work to integrate paypal

Sure PayPal would add a bit of convience for those without creditcards, but I think most people who had cell phones with other companies have credit cards. PM also has the vochure option.

I would rather PM fix the system issues that affect everyone rather than address a problem that might benefit a few people.

+1. There's been negligible progress with other self serve portal issues. All we need is a new feature to introduce more bugs.

@mimmo this has probably changed more recently but esp in old days people paying with a credit card were the minority

Vouchers used to be their bread & butter (until they crippled the distribution system after Telus takeover)

PayPal though is a horrible system, they have been found guilty of all kinds of bs (everything from running fraud credit checks on clients without consent to outright theft of funds) in the USA and world wide so I just shake my head at people supporting them

The idea to use BitCoin is even more absurd
