My father bought a new unlocked Kyocera DuraForce XD E6790 phone and when we put his SIM in and add the APN it gives a 'Network not available' error. He has an older Kyocera phone that it works just fine in. I put my SIM in and it detects I have call forwarding enabled (which I do) but no network connectivity. I also tried putting my work SIM in (Telus) and added the Telus APN which it detected voicemails and again no network. Is there a setting we're missing or could the phone possibily be locked?

Thanks,

Sounds like a locked phone. Try looking into the settings and see if there is a provider linked with it, or dial and call *611 to the current provider and have it unlocked.

You could also verify phone can work on Public Mobile by inserting IMEI number on their website just to narrow it down a little.

https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/bc/get-started

Additionally, I have an iphone 5s operating on old ios 7 software so I needed to visit unlockit.co.nz to install the appropriate APN settings - I couldn't do it manually.
