Android phones - go to settings, scroll all the way to the bottom, choose "about phone" then select status, then select SIM status. Phone number will be displayed here. Also here is a link for other retreival methods https://www.wikihow.com/Get-Your-Mobile-Number-from-Your-SIM

for iPhones just Touch "Phone" then "Contacts." Scroll to the very top of the list and you'll see "My Number..." Or, touch "Settings" and then "Phone." Your number is displayed at the top of the screen.
