I tried to go through the activate SIM process few times (each time failing with generic error asking to try login again). However, it never even created my account so I had to start from step 1. Finally it went further in steps and I was able to select the # needed porting (from Fido), pick the plan and added the credit card info, etc AND as it was processing this step came back with the same generic error (still account not created). I tried going through step 1 again and now I'm keep getting 'invalid SIM' error on step 1.

I read some forum discussions and tried clearing browser and tried different browser (chrome/FF) still no luck. I sent an email to MOD mailbox and they didn't get back to me for 5+ hours now.

The # is still active with Fido do looks like porting didn't happen. Any advise?

I was just repeating the preferred strategy that people mention here. Just get Public Mobile up and running on your phone and the service is working and THEN bring your prior number over. That way too, you still have service until you start the porting process. And even then it'll still work on the old service until it's actually fully ported.
