Replying to private messages

Thought I would throw the question out there. Was wondering if you have to log into community to reply to a private message or if you can reply through email. I have email notifications to on, so was wondering if I could simply press reply.

@mimmo I just checked the private message email in my email inbox, it doesn't say not to reply to it, however, the reply email address seems to be a common community notification email address. So I am not sure if it goes to someone.

Seeing as the notice comes from a "community notification" email address, it's probably a bot you'd be replying to. That's the same e-mail address that sends the notifications for replies to forum threads. I doubt that any replies to it would redirect to the proper place or person.

I just tested by replying to the e-mail notice for @Mana's post. The message has not appeared in this thread. Since it doesn't seem to work for forum messages, I don't see it working for private messages either.

Sounds like we found the answer. Again it was just a curiosity. But it actually could be a cool feature. I know many support sites work that way.

How come mods are able to reply to our pms from email clients? May be different system?
