How to use international texting

Sorry for the newbie question kinda new here. I just paid for a new plan which includes international texting but somehow i'm not really sure how to use this i want to text a couple of friends back home in the Philippines. Can anybody teach me how to do this?

It's the same way to send texts to other ppl

+ Ciuntry code then the .number

For Italy I would dialing +39celnumber

But many people now prefer whats app or other messaging services rather than sms

WhatsApp is great. My family members are using WhatsApp to bridge the gap between iOS and Android phones. It is great while travelling to call home using voice/video call and sending pictures home using WiFi at airport and hotel.
