I need to buy a phone. How do j know if it will be compatible if I don't already have it to check the code on it? I know the model number of the phone, but that's it.

To be safe, Telus and Koodo locked phones will work perfectly fine. Anything unlocked in Canada should also be fine.

To be certain, ask a friend for their PM sim card to test when you go out and buy a phone.

This phone currently has the best performance for the price. https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/chatr-motorola-moto-e5-play-16gb-black-prepaid/12660640.aspx? It says it is a Chatr phone, but it will work with Public Mobile because the phone is unlocked.

@public2 just to qualify this bit: Anything unlocked that was sold by a Canadian carrier in the past 4 or 5 years. Anything older might be CDMA or GSM only; anything from overseas might have the wrong 3G frequency support but still work at Rogers/Fido/Chatr due to Rogers' 2G GSM network. So just because the phone is unlocked and has been used in Canada doesn't necessarily mean it will work (if the previous owner used it on Fido or something, for example).
