Sounds like you may need to get a replacement sim since you've fully activated properly, if you ported in you may need to troubleshoot that, others will assist.

Is your iPhone 6 unlocked? If not call the provider you got it from and ask them to unlock it. They will send an unlock request to the phone..then connect your phone with wire to computer and open Itunes to finalize the unlock and also do any carrier updates that iTunes pushes to your phone.

If you used a referral code for a $10 signup bonus that will be credited to your account within 72 hours of activation. Welcome to Public Mobile!

Confirming if your sim card works in another phone if possible is helpful but if pm is showing up in your settings then that probably isn't the issue. You probably just have to update your iPhone and the carrier settings as mentioned by @Jb456 . This can initially be done by connecting to wifi and checking for any Apple updates in the settings. Once you allow the phone to update you then connect to iTunes to update the carrier profile by signing in with your Apple id.
