Oh yeah, It's not just data, you also get 1000 mins talk time and unlimited Jio to Jio free. Most people use Jio there anyways.

Plans there are super cheap compared to Canada plans.

@ddeep91 I do think prices for plans in Canada are too high. To be fair though, India has about 1.4 Billion with a B people compared to almost 38 million in Canada and they occupy a land mass about one third the size of us. I'm guessing economies of scale are huge there compared to here.

India gets a lot more users per each cell tower erected compared to the relatively low population for the wide expanses of Canada to cover, which bring the overall cost to operate the service down per user...

Yes, I don't think comparing the costs of cell service between Canada and India makes much sense considering the population base and geographical size of each. Plus how do you make a comparison between the valuation placed on the developing country's currency and Canada's since everything is all relative? Using Canadian standards to say cell phone plans only cost a few C$ is not the same for anyone being paid in rupees because those rupees probably represent a greater share of their income and may not seem as cheap to them.

Public mobile only has roaming agreements for the US. If you plan to travel internationally buy a travel sim online from Amazon or a local sim once you arrive. Make sure you have an app like text me or fongo to use while on WiFi at airports until you pick up a local sim. If you have a dual SIM phone you can keep both Sims otherwise fireplace your pm sim with the travel one and stow your pm sim somewhere safe til you arrive back in canada.

Most roaming packages offered by other providers are approximately $8+additional charges to $15 inclusive per day making a 7 day/$135, 10 day/$150, 14 day/$270, 30 day/$450. A travel sim is much cheaper or a local sim in India even more so....check out the links above.

@brettster99 Absolutely agree that doing comparison with cell phone rates in Australia is more than fair. Yeah, I do wonder how they get those plans/rates and we can't get something similar.

Okay that’s good. Also I also do wonde as well and this is Telstra which is I believe is one of the big carries there. Mind you these are prepaid or sim only plans and tried to choose something other then Vodaphone which I found in New Zealand with even phone laymen’s with data and everything starting around $50

@brettster99 Yes those are great rates from Telstra. Personally I prefer prepaid anyway, but I'm surprised that Vodaphone rates start at $50 in NZ though as they offer cell service practically almost everywhere globally except in Canada.

Too bad we don't have Telstra here though...😊

If you look at Vodaphone there prepay plans are godly compared. I mean they even have the bonus of 500MB for people under 25 (Which is ageist but that's one of many options for prepaying) or rewards for cheaper movie tickets or a lot of other things. And apparently they have weekly prepaid deals on plans. They also have a Vodafone pass ranging from $5 for chatting (like WhatsApp) to $20 for Video streaming. I mean if that stuff was here. I would pay $30 for the pass ($20 for video $10 for social media and $5 for chat) then I would not need any data. And I pay the minimum possible. where that categorize does not count against any data. I mean I really wounld't need it and that plan costs about $45 all in. But still imagine Bell or Telus or Rogers charing $45 dollars for unlimted video and social media usage and chat apps. That right there is tha majority of my cell usage anyway. With the Texts and Minuites carry over automatically. No add ons required

Even there cheapest monthly plan is $40. Endless data (going over the 4GB is slowed) and hotspot with no extra charges. Needless to say either way we are still getting screwed. I don't think we need the "fastest" connection or continuous investment as the connection right now is already good enough that the Big 3 answers that its for network improvement and to upgrade. Tell me the last time the Big 3 where the first in the world to upgrade to new technology. Right never. To me personally it don't matter and I would rather have cheaper plans then the "best" network (because it's not the best)

@brettster99 Hmm....I think you'll have a bit of a wait for those kinds of offers from the carriers around here, but who knows things could change...😊
