Someone made dubious transactions on one of my bank account and the security person at the bank suggested that I check if my phone had been accessed when I was sent an SMS with the verification code.

Please can anybody help me how to verify this.

We're going to need more information and maybe a screen shot of the SMS but please blank out your phone number.

It sounds like a possible scam. This will have nothing to do with public mobile. I think you may be on your own here. But once you give us more context, we'll help you figure it out.

I am not so familiar with the phone to do a screenshot of the SMS but was only a number sent by bank to log in

So it was the actual bank that sent you an SMS code? For what? Did you initiate something to get the code?

Or if it was a scam that pretended to be your bank, did you respond to it?

If so, you're on your own and customer service isn't able to assist you.

I think a lot of context wasn't given for us to make a proper suggestion to help you here today. And I don't think the solution you accepted will help you. But if I"m wrong, please come back and share how the solution worked. This is how we as members learn and help others.

Usually your bank would never send you a code unless you have the 2FA for online banking

I am not sure if PM agent can help with that, I don't sending them message helps

just check your phone, install some security software and scan.

uninstall all unnecessary app, those free app from unknown sources are dangerous

For any app you need to keep , check the security settings. Maybe ask someone with some knowledge to check for you as well

It was one of their ideea, the investigation didn't finish but I want to be sure that I can use mu mobile for other banks

if you are concern it is the phone, you should wipe and re-setup your phone, no restore from cloud but setup new phone. And do not install any app from small name players, at least for now

I can tell you that I don't have many apps, the ones I have are from the google store, so I hope they are verified. Can you please suggest me some security software?

Sorry, I'm a bit too emotional and angry, so I wasn't very coherent, I think.
Yes, I made a transaction at the bank and after that I closed and cleaned the browser.
A few hours later I received an e-mail from the bank saying that a person (whom I don't know) was added to my contact list) and that was it.
Naturally, I was surprised and went in to see what it was. The newly added person had made an interac transfer and had taken out some extra money.
Instead, the transfer I had requested was still pending.
Then I immediately called the bank's security and talked to them.
Now I hope it is clearer.

I have a relative have the same thing with HSBC.

And, I don't think it is the phone is the source of the problem, cos HSBC needs a security app to add new names to the interac

So someone made a fraudulent transaction on your bank account and the bank is asking if someone had access to your phone to access the multifactor authentication code they texted to you.

Not much PM can do if someone got access to your actual phone. Maybe change the device password. If you think someone cloned your sim card you can get a new one and change it yourself on your account.

bank like to take the responsibility off them, so the first thing they say, your phone got hacked. But adding a user on interac contacts, then process a debit, I don't think the leak on the phone

@hTideGnow My bank forces 2FA for adding a new interac e transfer contact. No sure if all banks are the same in that regard, but if this bank is it would make sense that they'd suggest this.

Most fraudulent online banking transactions are a result of a customer being negligent with their login credentials or they fall victim to a phishing attack. In either case it's the customers responsibility. It's not very often the banks online banking systems legitimately get hacked.
