Hi Public Mobile,

Routinely and quite regularly, we see new customers coming to the community to ask for help that they can't recieve calls or texts on the number they just ported in.  I feel it could be a lot clearer for the customer that the process can take 2-3 hours when porting from a mobile provider or up to several days when porting from a VoIP or home phone provider, and that they will receive a text when the porting is completed.  Etc.

It just needs to be clearer that the process can take a little time and what to expect.  Maybe mentioning a reboot if you're still not receiving calls after 3 hours might resolve it, etc.

Thanks for your consideration.

They should definitely make it more explicit. I still remember panicking when I first ported to PM, and I couldn't receive calls for 2 hours.

Edited - as the smileys won't work....

@CalvinW My GF could not receive calls for over two weeks with her new PM sim card when she moved over during the Promo.

The event can be summarized as follows....

We initially found that she could not receive calls or texts:

Me: YAY - peace and quiet!!!

Her: Not happy... with knives and stuff being thrown @ me

Then we found out that her old sim card worked:

Me: WHEW!

Her: Whateves, it should have just worked anyway!

Then - like WEEKS later PM completed the port:

Me: WHEW!

Her: YAY - but there is hell to be given for putting her through that!!

And in the end, I lost a couple days off the end of my life with all the stress.

The end.

I agree with this idea completely.

I haven't ported since I started this past summer, but from all the research I did prior, I knew the best option was to set up a temp number to ensure I had all services, then complete the number change afterwards to port the number.

we need to stress not only the potential wait times, but the proper steps and information that are required to get a successful port.  How to enter the information correctly, and what minimum information to use, because wrong information will fail out.

ive bravoed this post, but this is a bigger issue.

Given all the hiccups with porting as part of activation, it may be worthwhile to have customers do the two step process as a rule, activate with a new number and then port upon successful activation.

I knew the port takes a few hours before I signed up with PM, doesn't anyone do homework these days or are all of you have no patence ...

But plastering a message saying port may take up to 24 hr so sit your butt down and wait may be a good idea. It's probably a good idea I do not work in public relationships ... I am too blunt.
